Sheakley’s efforts to support Lighthouse Youth and Family Services

Lighthouse Youth and Family Services (Lighthouse) has a mission to advance the dignity and well-being of children, youths and families in need. They do this by operating emergency shelters and street outreach programs that meet the needs of homeless youths. Sheakley is a proud supporter of Lighthouse, and as part of giving back to the community, Sheakley organized several fund-raisers to support Lighthouse in their efforts.

One of those fund-raisers was a corporate-wide raffle, with profits going to the Lighthouse Youth Crisis Center and the Lighthouse Sheakley Center for Youth. Sheakley continued to raise funds for these centers through employee’s contributions and allowing them to purchase “jeans day cards”, for more casual days in the office. Through these efforts, Sheakley has been able to raise a little over $20,000 to help support the general operation funds of the Lighthouse centers.

These general operation funds are used to meet a variety of needs the youths have, including the following:

  • Transportation, clothing, food, prescription medications or devices, emergency rental assistance (to keep them from losing their housing), and Greyhound bus fare (so they can travel longer distances to reunite with family)
  • “Normalcy” activities such as ball games, the zoo and bowling. Lighthouse hopes to prevent these youths from missing out on experiences their peers have, in order to help them be well-rounded
  • To provide youths entering the shelters with basics utilities like clothing and personal hygiene products
  • To support intensive street outreach programs that require supplies similar to what is used in the shelters, helping youths on the streets remain safe, fed and clothed

Both centers are in need of support, not only from Sheakley, but also from members of the community. Below is a list of items that you can donate to help both Lighthouse Centers:

Both centers:

  • Undergarments (men’s and women’s- variety of sizes)
  • Socks (men’s and women’s- variety of sizes)
  • Hygiene products (combs, brushes, hair ties)

Lighthouse Youth Crisis Center:

  • Red’s tickets
  • Cincinnati zoo tickets
  • Gift cards (movies, bowling, skating)

Sheakley Center for Youth:

  • Non-perishable food items (peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, granola bars, dried fruit, protein bars)

Volunteer opportunities:

  • Meal service (preparation and serving of food to youths in the centers)
