Governor John Kasich just signed HB523 which “authorizes the use of marijuana for medical purposes” in the state of Ohio. This law creates the ability for licensed physicians to issue prescriptions for marijuana. While it’s likely to be a year or two before the entire system and providers are in place, it’s already raising a number of questions and concerns among employers.
One section of the bill makes it possible for employers to terminate employees who are using medical marijuana for medical purposes if the use violates the employer’s drug use policy.
