Show your employees that you value their hard work
The work that your employees put in each day is key to the success of your company. Recognizing and expressing thanks for that work is vital to keeping your workers excited and engaged with your business. Employee appreciation efforts demonstrate to your employees that you have taken notice of and want to reward their labor. While every company approaches employee appreciation differently, here are a few ideas to make sure your employees know how much you value them.
Non-work lunch with supervisor
How often do your supervisors or managers engage individually with employees in non-work settings or about non-work related topics? Beyond showing appreciation, personal connections forged in the workplace can help you retain and elicit greater efforts from your staff.
When an employee goes above and beyond – landing a new client or completing a big project – encourage their direct supervisor to take them out to lunch. Let the employee know that it’s in recognition of the company’s appreciation of them, but instead of focusing just on work your managers can seize the opportunity to connect with the employee. By getting to know your employees better as people rather than just employees, you are demonstrating a commitment to them – ensuring they are better engaged and more loyal to your company.
Social recognition
Do you send a company-wide email or put a snippet in your internal newsletter when an employee is being recognized for their contribution to the company? Why not take it up a notch and let your customers, vendors, fans, and the world know about your terrific employees by celebrating their achievements on your company’s social media accounts.
Publicizing your appreciation for your employees will have the added benefit of ensuring that your customers know that your company treats staff members with respect, a trait that increasingly socially conscious consumers are sure to value.
Surprise party
Who doesn’t love a party? Celebrate your employee or team’s big accomplishment in a surprising way – with a surprise party! Decorate the office, turn out the lights, and have a big cake for everyone to enjoy. Need to celebrate on a lower budget? Go low key and have everyone line the hall, clapping your star employee in as they arrive or out when they leave for the day. No matter the manner, recognizing the efforts of your employees will always be reciprocated.
Time off
If one of your employees logged extra hours to complete a big project, why not reward their sacrifice with a little extra personal time. Whether it’s sending them home early, letting them come in late, or taking a day off, allowing your employees to enjoy some leisure time in recognition of their efforts will definitely be appreciated.
Small treats
Not every employee appreciation activity has to be for completion of a big project or a stellar achievement. Making sure your employees know every day that you appreciate them is vital to maintaining a dedicated staff. A recurring appreciation effort for daily work well done or just to say “we’re glad you’re part of the team”, treats like a candy bar left at employees’ workstations, donuts brought in for breakfast, or sodas at break time are a small way for companies to tell employees they value their work.
