The Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) offers programs under Destination: Excellence, designed to protect your workforce while earning rebates on workers’ compensation premiums. Take a look at the different options Destination: Excellence  has to offer.

Drug Free Safety Program

Dependent upon the level of participation, employers can earn a 4% or 7% rebate on workers’ compensation premiums by implementing the BWC’s Drug Free Safety Program. Construction contractors may join the program at a “Comparable” level, to meet state requirements placing them on a list of approved contractors, required for State of Ohio public improvement projects. There are also implementation grants available through the BWC.

Go Green

Employers earn a 1% rebate, up to $2,000 annually, by reporting payroll and paying premiums online, eliminating paper transactions.

Industry Specific Safety

By joining this program, employers are encouraged to focus on the specific risks associated with their business. Requirements include completion of up to 3 loss prevention activities to earn a 3% premium rebate. Loss prevention activities may include attendance at an industry specific safety class either in person or online, an on-site safety consultation, and/or attendance at the annual Ohio Safety Congress and Expo. The number of loss prevention activities required is determined by payroll. Participants must also complete an online safety management assessment within the first 30 days of the policy year.

  • Reported payroll less than or equal to $100,000 in the initial eligibility determination year = one loss-prevention activity
  • Reported payroll more than $100,000 and up to $300,000 in the initial eligibility determination year = any two loss-prevention activities
  • Reported payroll more than $300,000 in the initial eligibility determination year = any three loss-prevention activities

Lapse Free

Employers receive a 1% rebate, up to $2,000 annually, by paying premiums on time. In order to qualify, employers must not have had a lapse in coverage within the past 60 months.

Safety Council

By joining your local safety council and attending informative meetings, employers can earn up to 4% in premium rebates while increasing safety awareness and networking with professionals in various industries.

Transitional Work Bonus Program (TWBP)

Employers may earn up to a 10% bonus by bringing injured employees back to work in a modified duty position. There are also Transitional Work Grants available to assist employers in the implementation of a BWC approved plan, offering a 3 to 1 matching grant up to $6,300, depending upon the number of employees within the company.
